動詞engage と形容詞engaged をしっかりと区別されることを勧めます。
〜に携わっている、〜に忙しくしている、〜と婚約している などの状態を表すのは engaged と言う形容詞です。
これらの意味は、下に挙げた動詞の用法のうちの2番目の用法の受動から生まれたものかと思います。既に 〜と結婚する取り決め、約束がされている と言う感じではないかな？ジーニアスだとengage の語源として、契約や誓いで縛る みたいな意味が与えられています。
