「私たちはトランプをして暇な時間を過ごした」は「We spent our free time playing cards」かと思いますが、なぜ「play」ではなく「playing」となるのですか？

理由は単純で、spend の後には動名詞（-ing）を使うルールがあるため、「playing cards」が正しいです。
